West Bengal

West Bengal is a State of India, located in the eastern part of the country. Funny ? No, because the great Bengal plain is roughly divided in an eastern part, which is Bengladesh, and a western part, the Indian West Bengal.

Tourist guide books are mainly focused on two points : Calcutta (now officially named Kolkota), the huge State capital city, and hills around Darjeeling, worldwide famous for their tea production and for the resort facilities they offered, during the pre-Independance period, to the British civil servants, merchants and military living in the Kolkota region, when they exploited the Indian resources and riches for the benefit of the British crown.
